Year 6 took part in their next RISE session where they explored the Zones of Regulation and discussed how different emotions can affect the way we think and behave. They began by revisiting the various exercises and strategies they have learned so far, such as breathing techniques, taking a mindful moment or using positive self-talk. The class reflected on which tools might work best for them when they find themselves in different zones, particularly when they feel overwhelmed, worried, or frustrated. Using this knowledge, Year 6 then designed their own personal “tool kits,” choosing the strategies they felt would help them regulate their emotions and return to a calm, ready-to-learn state. This activity encouraged them to think carefully about their own feelings and develop practical ways to manage them independently.
