Year 1 have been thoroughly enjoying learning more about British Monarchs this week. The children explored several significant monarchs and discovered why they are well known in history. They then used this knowledge to create their own timelines, helping them understand how different monarchs fit into the past. The class particularly enjoyed listening to the Horrible Histories Kings and Queens song, which helped them remember many of the royal names in a fun and memorable way!
In Music, the children had great fun during their Piccolo workshop. They learned some new songs and explored different ways of making music using their bodies, combining sound and movement to bring the activities to life. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and creativity as they joined in with the workshop.
In Maths, Year 1 have continued developing their understanding of numbers to 50. They have been working hard to recognise, order and explore these numbers in different ways to strengthen their number knowledge.
In English, the children have been working collaboratively in teams to research and share interesting facts about animal eggs. They enjoyed learning about the different types of eggs animals lay and sharing their discoveries with their classmates.
They continued with their RISE sessions and learning about their Zookeeper brains! This week they looked at the tortoise zone and created positive mantras that they can use when they are in this zone.
As part of their Lenten challenge, the children also planted their own seeds. While planting, they reflected on their Lenten promises and thought about the positive choices they would like to make during this special time. It was a lovely opportunity for the children to think about how they can grow just like their plants—showing kindness, patience and care as they keep their promises. 🌱
