Year 1 have had a wonderful final week before half term, full of exciting learning, creativity and reflection!
📚 In English, the children have been busy completing their retells of Cave Baby. They have worked hard to sequence the story and use their writing skills to bring the adventures of Cave Baby to life. We have been so impressed with their fantastic efforts as we bring this unit to a close!
🔢 In Maths, we have been exploring addition and learning how to write addition number sentences. The children have enjoyed developing their understanding of adding numbers together and putting their mathematical skills into practice.
🎨 As part of Black History Month, we have been learning about influential Black people and celebrating their achievements. We focused on the wonderful artist Alma Thomas, exploring her colourful and vibrant artwork. The children then took inspiration from her unique style to create their own beautiful mosaics. We certainly have some budding artists in Year 1!
❤️ In Religious Education, they have started Branch 2 - Prophecy and Promise and have been learning about Mary.
A group of children planned and led a lovely Celebration of the Word based on John's Gospel and Jesus' commandment to "Love one another."Â The class reflected on the different ways they could show love and kindness to others in their everyday lives. They shared thoughtful ideas and made promises to put Jesus' words into action.
🦌 In Catholic Social Teaching, we have been focusing on Luc the Deer and the important theme of Human Dignity. We have been learning that every person is special, unique and deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. The children enjoyed sharing stories, listening to one another and practising ways to show respect and value the feelings of others.
🏰 We also had great fun taking part in our Sponsored Bounce! The children had an absolutely brilliant time bouncing away, showing lots of energy and enthusiasm! A huge thank you to our fantastic PTA for organising such a fun event and to all the wonderful helpers who gave up their time to count our bounces. We are also incredibly grateful to everyone who supported the event through their generous donations!
It has been a busy and rewarding half term, and we are incredibly proud of everything Year 1 have achieved! We hope all our families have a wonderful, restful half-term break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting half term of learning! 💙💛
