Year 1 have had a wonderfully busy and productive week packed full of exciting learning across the curriculum!
In Geography, the children have been finishing their topic by creating fantastic posters all about Gosforth and the different features we can see in our local area. They carefully thought about what makes our area special and included lots of interesting details in their work.
As part of their learning, the children explored the difference between physical features (such as natural landscapes) and human features (things that have been built by people). They worked brilliantly to sort and classify the features they had identified, showing a growing understanding of the world around them.
In Maths, Year 1 have been focusing on subtraction. They have been developing their confidence in taking away, using practical resources, number lines and pictorial methods to help them understand what is happening when we subtract. It has been lovely to see their confidence growing as they explain their reasoning.
In English, the children have continued enjoying our class book, The Odd Egg. They have been making thoughtful predictions about the different eggs in the story and discussing what they think might hatch from each one. Their imaginations have certainly been working hard!
After discovering what was inside the eggs, the children created wonderful congratulation cards for the birds. They practised writing exclamation sentences to make their messages exciting and full of expression. We were so impressed with their enthusiasm and creativity!
In Art, the children applied their knowledge of creating 3D art work, to make their own Trees of Life based on different pieces of art work they had explored.
Well done, Year 1, for another fantastic week of learning! 🌟
