Year 5 have had a brilliant week in school, filled with exciting learning, thought-provoking discussions and plenty of opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills across the curriculum.

In RE, the children enjoyed taking part in a lively debate, exploring the question, “Is stealing ever justified?” They shared some brilliant ideas and demonstrated that they could listen carefully to different viewpoints, explain their own opinions and give reasons to support their thinking. We also challenged the children to think creatively about what a new commandment for 2026 might look like, particularly in relation to the online world and caring for our environment. It was fantastic to hear such thoughtful and mature responses.

In Science, Year 5 have been learning all about air resistance. The children have explored how air resistance affects moving objects and have begun to think about the factors that can change the amount of air resistance experienced. They have also been busy planning their own scientific experiments, thinking carefully about variables, making predictions and considering how they can collect reliable results.

Meanwhile, in English, the children have been introduced to the exciting world of science fiction. They have been exploring the key features of the genre, considering futuristic settings, imaginative technologies and unusual characters.
