Religious Education

Religious Education

Religious Education is at the heart of the Church’s mission to educate. At St Oswald’s, it is truly “the core of the core curriculum.” We follow the diocesan guidelines for the teaching of Religious Education and deliver the Come and See programme throughout the school. To reflect its importance, a minimum of 10% of curriculum time is dedicated to the teaching of RE across all key stages.

The Come and See programme is built around three central themes, which are revisited at increasing depth as children progress through the school:

  • Church

  • Sacraments

  • Christian Living

Each term, pupils study three units of work, one from each theme. Every unit lasts for four weeks and is structured around three stages of learning:

  • Explore – introducing and engaging with the theme

  • Reveal – developing understanding through the teachings of Scripture and the Church

  • Respond – reflecting, celebrating, and applying learning to life

Through this process, pupils are supported to deepen their faith, grow in understanding, and live out Gospel values in their daily lives
