Year 5 have had a brilliant week in school! We have enjoyed lots of poetry in both RE and English, exploring different styles and having fun playing with words. Year 5 have had a great week in school. In their English lessons, they have been reading a version of Anne Frank’s Diary by Josephine Poole and Angela Barrett. This week, everyone shared their opinions in a brilliant piece of writing about the importance of Anne Frank’s diary today. In science, we have been learning about the different properties of materials. The children enjoyed exploring conductors and insulators, as well as soluble and insoluble materials. In geography, we continued our topic on energy by learning about renewable energy, including its benefits and some of the challenges it presents.

Year 5 have had a brilliant week. Our visit to Nissan was amazing and gave the children the opportunity to use their coding skills and see real-life robots in action. As part of our geography work, we were visited by a scientist specialising in solar energy, who helped us learn all about this important renewable resource. We also enjoyed Diversity Day , where we talked about what makes each of us special and unique.

What a wonderful week we’ve had in Year 5! Our Christmas party day was brilliant, with lots of games, crafts and dancing enjoyed by everyone. Year 5 have had an incredibly crafty and creative week! They have produced a wonderful range of handmade cards, decorations and festive wreaths, each one showing great imagination and attention to detail. Year 5 have had a wonderful week preparing for Christmas. They created their own calendars filled with good deeds to complete throughout Advent. We were also lucky enough to visit the Cathedral for carol singing, and then explore the Christmas markets for a French lesson — with some delicious crêpes to enjoy as well.

Year 5 have had a wonderful week in school. They have enjoyed learning the hand jive in dance lessons and were fantastic movers. In English, they have updated their case notes and written some fantastic persuasive paragraphs. A group of children in Year 5 led this week's Celebration of the Word. They chose to read scripture from John's Gospel - The Wedding at Cana. This linked to the theme of joy and with a beautiful hymn to end it was a lovely celebration. In English this week, we have continued our work based on the marvellous book 'The Lizzie and Belle Mystery'. The children have written character profiles with looks of fabulous vocabulary.

As part of their work on Judaism, Year 5 created Mezuzahs as they have been learning about the importance of the Shema prayer. They have enjoyed learning all about Jewish celebrations and asked some very thoughtful questions. In PE this term, we have been creating dance routines linked to the theme 'dance by chance'.
