Year 3

Year 3 had a fantastic time celebrating French Day with a range of exciting activities all about French language and culture. Throughout the day, the children explored French food, learning the names of popular dishes and discovering some of the delicious treats enjoyed in France. Year 3 loved their Quidditch taster session with Active Future Newcastle this morning! The children were thrilled to have the opportunity to learn how to play a game inspired by one of their favourite book series. There was fantastic teamwork, determination and excitement on display as the children competed in their houses. A huge well done to Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Slytherin for their brilliant effort and sportsmanship throughout the session!

We are delighted to let you know that the children have successfully filled their Star Reward Jar! As the children voted for a “Morris Mystery Reward”, Mrs Morris arranged a surprise "Ice Cream Parlour" treat for the children. The children enjoyed either a small serving of ice cream with optional toppings or an ice lolly. Well done, Year 3!

During Careers Week, Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed a series of inspiring talks from our parent volunteers. The children learned about a wide range of careers, including building surveying, physiotherapy, advisory teaching for young people with neurodiversities, journalism, and science. Year 3 had a fantastically creative afternoon making their pneumatic toy designs from their DT unit. We looked at how compressed air can be used to control a mechanism and designed and made toys aimed at 5 year old children. We loved our finished products!

This morning we shared our Celebration of the Word with our families. We celebrated the feast of Pentecost, the Church's birthday and the beginning of our faith community.

Children in Year 3 led a beautiful class worship based on the story of Jesus and Zacchaeus. We thought about how desperate Zacchaeus was to see Jesus and the impact this had on his life. Our leaders asked us to think about ways that we could see Jesus more clearly so that we could make a change in our lives in the way Zacchaeus did. We hung out promises on a prayer tree.

Inspired by our English text, ‘Cloud Tea Monkeys’ by Mal Peet, Year 3 have been learning about the importance of Fair Trade and the impact it can have on the world’s tea trade. We are working towards writing a persuasive piece of writing encouraging people to buy Fair Trade products where possible. We are trying to use a variety of different types of sentences in our writing as well as including facts and opinions to strengthen our argument.

Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed their first Gaelic football PE lesson. We learned new skills involved in the game and had great fun playing 'cross the river'.

Children from Year 3 led a beautiful class worship based on our current worship theme, Discipleship. The children took inspiration from the Scripture -Jesus sends out the disciples Matthew 28:18-20. As a response to the Scripture they asked their friends to each place a candle in a circle around the Scripture and cross to symbolise the job that the disciples had to spread the message and light of Christ all around the world. In their Outdoor Adventurous Activities PE unit, Year 3 have been working on their team building skills. Today, we focused on the importance of clear communication between a team. We were challenged to each take turns to be a leader and give clear instructions to our team to help them to spell out a mystery word. We had to adapt our instructions when they were misunderstood or unclear to help our team to be successful. This also meant our team mates had to listen carefully to

Year 3 explored how shadows change during their science investigation! They experimented with different angles of a light source to see how it affected the length of shadows. The children made predictions, tested their ideas, and observed how moving the light higher or lower changed what they saw. There were lots of great discussions and thoughtful observations as they worked like real scientists!

Children from Y3 planned and lead a beautiful class worship today. The children used the theme, ‘Discipleship’ to select their scripture from John’s gospel-‘By this shall all mankind know you are my disciples’ The worship leaders asked us to think about how we can proudly show our discipleship and asked us to design a badge for a disciple to wear during their response. We were asked to proudly display our badges on our uniform and explain the significance of the symbols we c

Year 3 have loved their RISE project ‘Brain Buddies’ sessions with Jenny. On Thursday, they completed their final session, recapping on their previous learning and how they can implement some of the strategies we have discovered during the course of the lessons. Year 3 have started their new focus text in their English lesson, Mal Peet's 'Cloud Tea Monkeys'. Today we became royal tea tasting apprentices and used our sense to help us describe the different flavours and aromas of a variety of different teas. We tried to use vivid and descriptive language to make the teas sound appealing to the Royal Tea Taster.

Year 3 completed their prehistoric art work today. Inspired by Stone Age man, children used natural paints and materials to create the texture of a stone surface then used charcoal to depict different animals as we know this was something that was often used in art work from that time.

Year 3 loved their PE lesson today where we learned some line dancing! Yeehaw!

Year 3 and 4 Book Club celebrated the end of their novel today with a fantastic party! They enjoyed a range of snacks inspired by their text, The Extincts by Veronica Cossanteli, and shared their thoughts on the exciting conclusion. The children also had great fun playing ‘Hunt the Basilisk’, bringing the story to life through play and teamwork! Book Club have thoroughly enjoyed this text this half term and would definitely recommend it to their friends.

To continue with our Networks unit in Computing, today Year 3 looked at packet data. We linked back to our understanding of how the internet works from our previous lesson and focused in more detail on how files are sent through networks. We then designed our own ‘files’ and broke them down into packet data. Each packet had its own instructions to help the user assemble the file. We also learned about what happens when packet data is incomplete or the instructions don’t work

Thank you to Mrs Mooney and the Faith in Action team for our wonderful Stations of the Cross reflection day. It was lovely to see all of the children spending time at the different prayer stations as they followed Jesus’ journey to the cross They were incredibly reflective, prayerful and peaceful throughout—such a special and meaningful experience for everyone.
