Year 3

Year 3 continue to enjoy their ukulele music sessions! The children have been developing their musical skills, learning new chords and rhythms and growing in confidence each week. It is wonderful to hear their playing coming together and to see how much they enjoy making music as a class!

Children from year 3 planned and led a beautiful class worship based on John 13:34-35, ‘Love One Another’. They asked classmates to consider the ways in which they can show love to their friends, families and neighbours and make a promise with God to try and carry this out. This was symbolised with a ‘promise knot’ they tied gently around their fingers to encourage them to complete this part of their mission going forward.

Year 3 spent their creative prayer time thinking about how we can ‘participate more’ and be inspired by Patariki the penguin, our Catholic Social Teaching Mascot for this month. We thought about the ways we can use our gifts and talents to become active participants of our faith and care for the gift of God’s creation.

Children in Year 3 led a beautiful Collective Worship based around their RE topic, Creation and Covenant. They reflected thoughtfully on Scripture from the Book of Genesis and considered how God calls us to care for His wonderful creation. In their RE lesson today, Year 3 examined the Catholic Social Teaching principle of Human Dignity. We understand that all human beings are created in the image and likeness of God from our reading of Genesis and we are important and valued. We looked at ways that we can demonstrate human dignity in our school community.

Year 3 continue to work on fundamental skills as part of their PE unit. We have been working on our sprinting and jogging skills to further develop our speed and agility. We can recognise how and where we can use these different skills in games settings.

Children in year 3 led a beautiful collective worship based around our RE Topic of Creation and Convenant. They reflected on Scripture from the book of Genesis and considered how they could take care of the earth and demonstrate stewardship over God’s gift to us.

Year 3 are loving their French lessons with Madame Hewson. The children have already mastered how to greet people in French and understand the different between a formal and informal greeting. Tres bien!

Year 3 are so lucky that they get to work Miss Hurley throughout the year as part of the Diocesan Music Programme. We loved our first session with her, singing lots of new songs and learning some new musical vocabulary.

Year 3 loved their first ukulele lesson. We learned the names of the parts of the ukulele and the notes each string can play. We even learned to play our first song!

Year 3 had a ‘fin’tastic first day at school! Following their class fish theme for this year, the children created their very own coral reef! They explored the amazing diversity of coral reefs, looking at the variety of plants and animals that live there and celebrating how each one is unique — just like them! Throughout the day, the children explored French food, learning the names of popular dishes and discovering some of the delicious treats enjoyed in France. Year 3 loved their Quidditch taster session with Active Future Newcastle this morning! The children were thrilled to have the opportunity to learn how to play a game inspired by one of their favourite book series. There was fantastic teamwork, determination and excitement on display as the children competed in their houses. A huge well done to Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Slytherin for their brilliant effort and sportsmanship throughout the session!

We are delighted to let you know that the children have successfully filled their Star Reward Jar! As the children voted for a “Morris Mystery Reward”, Mrs Morris arranged a surprise "Ice Cream Parlour" treat for the children. The children enjoyed either a small serving of ice cream with optional toppings or an ice lolly. Well done, Year 3!

During Careers Week, Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed a series of inspiring talks from our parent volunteers. The children learned about a wide range of careers, including building surveying, physiotherapy, advisory teaching for young people with neurodiversities, journalism, and science. Year 3 had a fantastically creative afternoon making their pneumatic toy designs from their DT unit. We looked at how compressed air can be used to control a mechanism and designed and made toys aimed at 5 year old children. We loved our finished products!

This morning we shared our Celebration of the Word with our families. We celebrated the feast of Pentecost, the Church's birthday and the beginning of our faith community.

Children in Year 3 led a beautiful class worship based on the story of Jesus and Zacchaeus. We thought about how desperate Zacchaeus was to see Jesus and the impact this had on his life. Our leaders asked us to think about ways that we could see Jesus more clearly so that we could make a change in our lives in the way Zacchaeus did. We hung out promises on a prayer tree.

Inspired by our English text, ‘Cloud Tea Monkeys’ by Mal Peet, Year 3 have been learning about the importance of Fair Trade and the impact it can have on the world’s tea trade. We are working towards writing a persuasive piece of writing encouraging people to buy Fair Trade products where possible. We are trying to use a variety of different types of sentences in our writing as well as including facts and opinions to strengthen our argument.

Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed their first Gaelic football PE lesson. We learned new skills involved in the game and had great fun playing 'cross the river'.
