In their RHE lessons, Year 3 took a closer look at the media and the influence it can have on all of us. We know that not everything we see in the media is always true and that sometimes social media can show the "highlights" of life, not the reality. We talked about the effect that this can have on the people who view it and how it might make them feel. Wednesday 4th February 2026
Year 3 enjoy taking a brain break in between our busy timetable of lessons. This week we loved completing 4 minute drawing tutorials and were all thrilled with how our art work turned out. We also continue to enjoy our Rugby sessions with coach Gavin. Today, we progressed to playing mini games in small groups. We can't wait to take part in the inter schools tournament after half term.

Year 3 enjoyed getting hands-on in their Science lesson today! They learned all about the rock cycle, using sweets to simulate molten rock formation. The best part? They got to 'eat' their rocks at the end! A fun and tasty way to bring learning to life!

Year 3 took part in a Carbon Monoxide Safety workshop with Bonanza Creative. They helped #SafetySeymour and learnt how to keep themselves and their families safe from carbon monoxide. We know where in the home carbon monoxide may be present in the home and the symptoms we might need to look for.

Year 3 worked as a team to help the Mayor of Hamlin with a job advertisement to help him to get rid of the rat infestation problem that has hit the city.

Year 3 enjoyed another great rugby session with our coach, Gavin. This week, we focused on our tackling skills and took part in different activites to help us to understand how we could apply these skills into a real life game. In our DT lesson this week, we progressed to mastering cross stitch. We can see real progress in our sewing skills in just a few weeks.

Year 3 children led a worship based on the theme of service. They thought carefully about how each part of the worship could enhance the theme and created a beautiful moment of reflection.

In English, we have began looking at the traditional tale of The Pied Piper of Hamlin. We will be studying different versions of the tale and comparing and contrasting them. We started by looking at the townspeople of Hamlin and what we could infer about them from the clues in the text. Year 3 loved their first rugby session with the Newcastle PE Service. We showed excellent spatial awareness and impressive ball-handling skills, throwing ourselves into the lesson with enthusiasm and teamwork. We can't wait to take part in the inter-schools tournament.

We enjoyed a trip to the Great North Museum to celebrate the end of our Ancient Egyptians topic. We became gallery explorers and enjoyed looking for lots of different types of artefacts as well as pyramid building and exploring the book of the dead further.

We worked on patch and point balances in our gymnastics lesson today. We tried to control our balance by tightening our muscles and focusing on maintaining our shape. We put our balance skills to the test using the apparatus.

Monday 17th November 2025
This morning, we began our new English unit of work based around Roald Dahl's 'The BFG'. We look closely at character description and setting and then adapted and improved sentences using different word classes. This afternoon, we enjoyed 'tinkering' with Scratch this afternoon as a way to re-familiarise ourselves with the software before we explore it further in our programming unit of work.

We have been exploring Ancient Egyptian art work this week. We created texture to imitate the papyrus paper the Egyptians would have used and studied patterns, colours and shapes closely to create an inspiration board to use throughout our topic.

We have loved creating our own fantasy narratives based on Angela McAllister's fantastic book, 'Leon and the Place Between'. We used interesting vocabulary and sentence structures to transport our reader into a world of magic and wonder and really enjoyed immersing ourselves in the writing experience!

Year 3 took part in the BBC Live Lesson as part of Anti Bullying Week. We became Secret Agents and worked hard to earn golden tokens by completing tasks based around this year's Anti-Bullying Alliance theme of 'Power For Good'.
