Religious Education

In RE, Year 2 learned more about the Bible and discovered that it is a collection of different books, divided into two main parts: the Old Testament and the New Testament. The children enjoyed using the Bible’s contents page to locate different books and identify whether they belonged to the Old or New Testament. They showed great curiosity as they developed their understanding of this special book at the heart of our Catholic faith.

In their RE lesson today, Year 3 examined the Catholic Social Teaching principle of Human Dignity. We understand that all human beings are created in the image and likeness of God from our reading of Genesis and we are important and valued. We looked at ways that we can demonstrate human dignity in our school community.

As part of their RE topic, ‘Creation and Covenant’, Year 5 have been busy creating timelines of the Old Testament covenants they have studied so far. The children included key information and meaningful symbols to represent each covenant, helping them to deepen their understanding of how God’s promises and relationships with His people unfold throughout the Old Testament.

In RE today, Year 2 explored what helps and what harms our relationships with one another. The children thought carefully about how Jesus teaches us to love, forgive and care for others, and reflected on how their own words and actions can help to build loving, respectful relationships.

Today in RE, Year 2 explored the covenant God made with Noah following the flood. They learned that a covenant is a special promise between God and His people, showing His everlasting love and faithfulness. The children discovered how the rainbow is a sign of God’s promise to Noah, reminding us of God’s love and care for all of creation. A wonderful lesson of thoughtful learning and reflection!

Year 5 had a fantastic RE lesson today, exploring the Creation story in Genesis. They enjoyed discussing how the story links to stewardship and our responsibility to care for the world around us, ensuring it is protected for future generations. It was wonderful to hear their thoughtful ideas, insightful discussions and reflections as they considered how we can all play a part in looking after God’s creation.

Year 1 had a wonderful RE lesson thinking about their global neighbours and how we are all connected under the same sky. Inspired by King David’s psalm, the children reflected on how, no matter who we are or where we come from, we all share one sky and one sun. They then created beautiful artwork to represent this idea, celebrating the ways we are connected to people all around the world. What a thoughtful and creative lesson!

In RE this week, Year 5 have been reflecting on how lives are transformed by the Holy Spirit. Each child chose a saint to research, exploring how their life was changed through faith and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The children then portrayed their saint’s journey pictorially in the style of traditional Traidcraft El Salvador crosses, creating some thoughtful and beautiful pieces of artwork.

Reception have loved learning about Pentecost and the Holy Spirit and created some wonderful spiritual artwork inspired by their learning. The children showed fantastic creativity and thoughtful ideas throughout the activity.

In RE, Year 4 have created some beautiful character sketches inspired by Saint Paul They showed great thought and reflection in exploring his life and mission.

Year 4 have produced some simply stunning Easter cards to share with their families. Each one has been created with such care, creativity and thought, making them truly special keepsakes. A beautiful way to celebrate the joy and meaning of Easter!

Tonight, our talented Year 4 and Year 5 pupils gathered at Sacred Heart Church for their Easter performance. They read, sang and acted beautifully, sharing the Easter story and the importance of the sacrifice made, reminding us all how we carry this message in our own lives. Their performance brought the story to life in such a meaningful and memorable way. We are incredibly proud of their confidence, expression and teamwork—what a fantastic performance!

Year 1 made a lovely start on their Easter cards this afternoon, carefully painting their palm leaf crosses. The children showed great care and attention as they created their designs—what a beautiful way to begin their Easter preparations!

Year 6 have thoughtfully considered their own spiritual growth, taking time to think about how they can continue to grow as individuals. The children created hands to take home, adding them to their growing sunflower Each hand represents ways they can help themselves and support others, serving as a reminder of the importance of kindness, care and compassion in their daily lives. In RE, Year 4 have been getting creative by making their own podcasts They explored how Christians live during Lent, sharing their ideas and understanding in a fun and engaging way. It was fantastic to see their confidence and creativity shine!

Year 6 have been taking time this Lent to reflect on how they can grow in love, kindness, patience and forgiveness. Building on the seeds they planted last week, the children created beautiful hearts filled with ideas about the kind things they have done and the kind things they can do for others. In RE, Year 4 have been rewriting the Our Father in their own words to help them better understand the meaning of this important prayer. They also created actions to go with each part, helping them remember the prayer and reflect on its message in a fun and engaging way.

Year 5 enjoyed creating acrostic poems in RE this week. They have been learning about Lent, discussing the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ and exploring words linked to this special time in the Church’s liturgical year. The children used these ideas to create thoughtful poems about how we, as Christians, try to live like Jesus.

Year 1 stepped into the role of parishioners who had gathered for a Parish BBQ in their RE lesson. They thought carefully about what people might be saying and thinking, before working together to create a wonderful class picture. Their work showed how everyone can help spread God’s love in the world.
