Year 6 took part in their next RISE session where they explored the Zones of Regulation and discussed how different emotions can affect the way we think and behave.
They began by revisiting the exercises and strategies they have already learned, including breathing techniques, taking a mindful moment and using positive self-talk. The class reflected on which tools might work best for them when they find themselves in different zones, particularly when feeling overwhelmed, worried or frustrated.
Using this knowledge, the pupils designed their own personal “toolkits”, choosing strategies that would help them regulate their emotions and return to a calm, ready-to-learn state. It was a thoughtful session that helped the children reflect on their feelings and develop practical ways to manage them independently.
