Peter Rabbit: Tales on the Tyne is a free, family-friendly art trail taking place across Newcastle and North Tyneside from 15th July to 14th September. 43 big and 53 little Peter Rabbit sculptures will be located in parks, streets and public buildings – and one of the sculptures was designed by our talented children! On Wednesday, 1 July, the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) celebrates its 20th anniversary! To mark this special occasion, Year 1 created some thoughtful thank you cards which will be passed on to NEAS staff as a way of showing our appreciation for everything they do to help and care for our communities. The Faith in Action Team spent time reflecting on the meaning of love and how we can demonstrate it in our daily lives through kindness, patience, forgiveness and caring for others. Through thoughtful discussion and reflection, the children explored how small acts of love can make a big difference to those around us and how we can follow Jesus’ example in the way we treat others.

This morning was a truly special occasion for our Year 4 children as they celebrated their First Holy Communion at Sacred Heart Church. Surrounded by their families and friends, the children received the sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time in a beautiful and reverent Mass. Year 6 had a wonderful opportunity to meet representatives from Daft as a Brush (DAAB), who visited the school to share the incredible work they do within the local community. The volunteers spoke to the whole school about the charity’s mission of providing free transport to and from hospital appointments, helping the children understand the difference that kindness, compassion and service can make in the lives of others. Year 4 have arrived safely at the Youth Village and enjoyed a great first night. The rain has stayed away, and everyone is settled in and ready for the adventures ahead! They are looking forward to a busy and exciting day tomorrow.

A huge well done to everyone who took part in the Children’s Cancer Run today! It was wonderful to see so many members of our school community come together to support such an incredible cause. The children and their families were absolutely fantastic, showing determination, kindness and amazing team spirit throughout the day. Inspired by our English text, ‘Cloud Tea Monkeys’ by Mal Peet, Year 3 have been learning about the importance of Fair Trade and the impact it can have on the world’s tea trade. We are working towards writing a persuasive piece of writing encouraging people to buy Fair Trade products where possible. We are trying to use a variety of different types of sentences in our writing as well as including facts and opinions to strengthen our argument.

Everyone took part in a special Picture News assembly to celebrate Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday. Sir David Attenborough is an incredible natural historian who has inspired generations through his work exploring and protecting the natural world. A truly remarkable human being who continues to inspire so many.

Year 3 have loved their RISE project ‘Brain Buddies’ sessions with Jenny. On Thursday, they completed their final session, recapping on their previous learning and how they can implement some of the strategies we have discovered during the course of the lessons. Tonight, our talented Year 4 and Year 5 pupils gathered at Sacred Heart Church for their Easter performance. They read, sang and acted beautifully, sharing the Easter story and the importance of the sacrifice made, reminding us all how we carry this message in our own lives. This morning, our Faith in Action team led the whole school in a meaningful worship as they guided us through the Stations of the Cross.

Today, Year 4 joined their peers from Catholic primary schools across the city for a special visit to the Cathedral, where they took part in the Stations of the Cross. It was a thoughtful and reflective experience and the children showed great respect and reverence throughout. We are very proud of how they represented our school.

Today, our Mini Vinnies led a fantastic assembly all about Comic Relief They spoke confidently and clearly, sharing how the charity makes a real difference to vulnerable people and communities both here in the UK and across the world. It was an engaging and informative presentation that inspired us all.
