In RE, Year 2 learned more about the Bible and discovered that it is a collection of different books, divided into two main parts: the Old Testament and the New Testament. The children enjoyed using the Bible’s contents page to locate different books and identify whether they belonged to the Old or New Testament. They showed great curiosity as they developed their understanding of this special book at the heart of our Catholic faith.

In their RE lesson today, Year 3 examined the Catholic Social Teaching principle of Human Dignity. We understand that all human beings are created in the image and likeness of God from our reading of Genesis and we are important and valued. We looked at ways that we can demonstrate human dignity in our school community.

This week, Sofia the Sloth helped us explore the CAFOD Catholic Social Teaching principle of Stewardship – caring for God’s wonderful gifts. Year 5 have had a brilliant week in school! They have enjoyed playing netball in PE, practising rounding numbers in maths and learning all about friction in science. A group of children also planned and led a wonderful Celebration of the Word, choosing scripture linked to our RE topic, ‘Creation and Covenant’. During their class-led worship today, Year 4 reflected on St Paul’s message and were reminded of the importance of showing love and kindness to others. The children thought carefully about how they can live out this message through their words and actions each day, following Jesus’ example in all that they do.

Year 1 enjoyed a peaceful guided meditation as they reflected on the wonder of God’s creation. They took time to look at the world around them and think about all the beautiful and wonderful things God has created. Inspired by their reflections, the children created some beautiful Creation artwork before working together to make their very own Class Creation Creed, sharing what they believe about God as Creator. Year 3 continue to work on fundamental skills as part of their PE unit. We have been working on our sprinting and jogging skills to further develop our speed and agility. We can recognise how and where we can use these different skills in games settings.

Children in year 3 led a beautiful collective worship based around our RE Topic of Creation and Convenant. They reflected on Scripture from the book of Genesis and considered how they could take care of the earth and demonstrate stewardship over God’s gift to us.

Year 1 led their very first class worship today! The group carefully planned a beautiful Celebration of the Word based around Genesis 1:1–4. They created a calm and reflective time for the whole class to come together in prayer, listen to God’s Word and think about the wonder of His creation. A wonderful first experience of leading worship together.

Year 4 have had another incredibly busy week working hard in all curriculum areas. In French, they have practised writing sentences about the family and in PE they have been perfecting ‘big’ balances.

As part of their RE topic, ‘Creation and Covenant’, Year 5 have been busy creating timelines of the Old Testament covenants they have studied so far. The children included key information and meaningful symbols to represent each covenant, helping them to deepen their understanding of how God’s promises and relationships with His people unfold throughout the Old Testament.

Year 3 are loving their French lessons with Madame Hewson. The children have already mastered how to greet people in French and understand the different between a formal and informal greeting. Tres bien!

In RE today, Year 2 explored what helps and what harms our relationships with one another. The children thought carefully about how Jesus teaches us to love, forgive and care for others, and reflected on how their own words and actions can help to build loving, respectful relationships.
