This week, Year 2 have been busy developing their scientific skills by predicting and investigating different materials to find out whether they are transparent, translucent or opaque. 🔦
Before testing, the children carefully discussed their ideas and made thoughtful predictions about what might happen when light was shone through each material. They then used a torch to test their ideas, making sure it was a fair test by keeping some variables the same (the torch and the distance from the material) while changing only the type of material. The children observed closely and recorded whether the light passed straight through, partially through, or not at all. They used their results to confirm or rethink their original predictions.
It was fantastic to see such mature scientific thinking, careful observation and brilliant teamwork throughout the investigation. 🌟🔬
In PE, the children have been learning how to skip. Skipping requires coordination, rhythm and balance, and the children have been working hard to develop these skills. They practised moving forwards with a smooth step-hop pattern and focused on keeping a steady pace. Although skipping can be tricky at first, the children have shown great determination and are becoming more confident with each lesson.
In DT, the children explored a range of techniques to manipulate clay, including rolling, pinching, flattening and smoothing. They then used the slip and score method to carefully attach additional pieces and add detail to their sculptures. The children showed patience and creativity as they refined their designs and ensured their joins were strong and secure.
