In Maths, the children have been developing their understanding of place value. They have been learning how to partition numbers into tens and ones, both by recording their ideas in written form and by using practical manipulatives to represent numbers. The children have enjoyed exploring different ways to show their understanding and have demonstrated excellent mathematical thinking and reasoning.
In PE, the children continued to develop their fundamental movement skills. They practised jumping, skipping, side stepping and balancing, focusing on improving their coordination, control and movement skills. Everyone worked really hard and enjoyed putting their skills into practice while building their confidence and teamwork.
During English, the children developed their oracy skills by using a story strip to help them retell The Bear Under the Stairs. They enjoyed discussing the pictures, recalling key events and confidently retelling the story in their own words. It was wonderful to hear the children sharing their ideas and using their speaking and listening skills so well.
In Art, Year 2 began their exciting new sculpture unit. They explored what sculpture is and looked at a range of examples, including artwork depicting the iconic Angel of the North. The children shared their thoughts and observations and are looking forward to creating their own sculptures in the coming weeks.
In RE, the children reflected on what helps and what harms our relationships with one another. We discussed how Jesus teaches us to love, forgive and care for others, and thought about how our words and actions can help us build positive, loving and respectful relationships within our school community.
We are delighted with the excellent start Year 2 have made and cannot wait to see all of the wonderful learning and achievements that lie ahead this year. Keep up the fantastic work, Year 2! 🌟📚🎨➕🏃♀️🙏
