Year 1 have had a truly lovely and productive week, filled with curiosity, teamwork, and creativity across the curriculum.
In Maths, the children have been exploring the concept of mass. They began by comparing objects to decide which were heavier or lighter, before moving on to using non-standard units to measure the mass of different classroom items. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they developed their understanding through hands-on investigation.
In English, the class thoroughly enjoyed discovering how the story Lubna and Pebble comes to an end. They showed great empathy when discussing the characters, especially when offering thoughtful advice to Amir about what to do when he is feeling sad. Alongside this, the children have been learning about contractions, practising how to change words into their contracted forms.
PE lessons this week focused on teamwork and coordination. The children worked brilliantly together as they practised their throwing skills and learned how to be ready to receive a ball. Their enthusiasm and cooperation were fantastic to see.
In RE, the class explored the story of the Ascension. They identified and plotted the key parts and important words from the story before bringing it to life by acting it out with their friends. This helped deepen their understanding in an engaging and memorable way.
To round off the week, the children completed their collaborative spider artwork. They are very excited to see the finished piece once the paint has dried and they should be incredibly proud of their teamwork and creativity.
Well done, Year 1, for such a wonderful week of learning!
