Today, Year 3 became archaeologists to help us use our inference skills to find out more about our new English text, ‘Escape from Pompeii’ by Christine Bait. We used the clues we found in our archaeological digs to help us work out where and when the book was set and predict what might happen. We can’t wait to find out more about the city of Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius.

Year 1 shared the story of The Last Supper today and then beautifully retold it in their own words. They reflected on how we remember this special meal during Mass and how we are remembering Jesus, just as He asked us to do. It was lovely to hear their thoughtful ideas and understanding.

This week, Year 2 have been busy developing their scientific skills by predicting and investigating different materials to find out whether they are transparent, translucent or opaque. 🔦 Before testing, the children carefully discussed their ideas and made thoughtful predictions about what might happen when light was shone through each material. Year 4 have had yet another incredibly busy week this week! In French, they have started their own 'mini books', which they are very excited about and , in Choir, they learnt a Pancake Rap, with Miss Hurley.

Year 6 confidently led the whole school in worship this morning. They shared thoughtful reflections on the Fruits of the Holy Spirit and encouraged everyone to think about how we can show love, kindness, patience and self-control in our daily lives to become the best versions of ourselves. Year 5 have had an absolutely brilliant week in school, packed full of exciting learning and fantastic achievements. In Science, the children have been exploring materials and their properties. They have investigated which materials are flexible, waterproof, absorbent and durable, and have enjoyed carrying out a range of brilliant experiments to test their ideas. Year 3 loved their ‘Brain Buddies’ session with Jenny from the RISE this afternoon. They explored the idea of their brain buddy – the part of the brain that speaks kindly and helps them feel positive and confident. They also discussed the brain bully and how that voice can sometimes influence how they feel about themselves. In their RE lesson, Year 1 spent time thinking about all the different parts of the Mass. They discussed what happens during it and talked about why every part is important. The children shared thoughtful ideas and are looking forward to exploring the Mass in even more detail over the coming weeks.

We loved our session ‘Brain Buddies’ with Jenny from the RISE project this afternoon. We talked about our brain buddy, the part of our brain that talks to us when we feel positive and good about ourselves. We also acknowledged our ‘brain bully’ and how that might impact how we feel about ourselves sometimes. Over the coming weeks, we will be looking at different strategies to help us listen more to our brain buddies and regulate any uncomfortable feelings.

Year 3 have made so much progress in French this year. Today, we consolidated our understanding of the colours in French using a fantastic song all about a chameleon called Leon. We had a brilliant final T1 rugby session with Gavin. We played a mini tournament to prepare us for the inter schools competition after half term.

Year 3 enjoyed their team games session with the Newcastle PE Service this morning. We worked on our team building skills-focusing on communication, support and encouragement.

Today, Mrs Summersby and the Wellbeing Council led a whole-school assembly for Children’s Mental Health Week They explored this year’s theme, ‘This Is My Place’ and what it means to feel a sense of belonging. They also shared details of our art activity planned by Ricky Martin and @_place2be.

What a wonderful week in Year 2! In RE , we looked at prayer books and wrote our own prayers inspired by Corinthians’ words: “Love is patient, love is kind.” The children thought deeply about what love means to them and produced some truly thoughtful prayers. Our School Council met today to create a child-friendly version of our behaviour policy. They proudly represented their classes, clearly setting out our school values and expectations. They’re excited to share their work in assembly next week and launch a competition to make the policy accessible for all!

In their RHE lessons, Year 3 took a closer look at the media and the influence it can have on all of us. We know that not everything we see in the media is always true and that sometimes social media can show the "highlights" of life, not the reality.
